Build a Stronger America - Join the Entrepreneurs' Movement
Build a Stronger America Kicks off at the Inc. 500/5000

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation today officially launched "Build a Stronger America," a movement to unite entrepreneurs and help give them a stronger voice in the public discussion about the country's economic future. The Movement went "live" before 1,200 of America's most prolific entrepreneurs at the Inc. 500/5000 conference in Washington, DC. Through the Movement's Web site entrepreneurs and business owners will have, for the first time, a central hub to share their stories, hear about issues affecting them and create a unified voice.

Visit us at BuildaStrongerAmerica.com to:
  • Receive news and information that is relevant to entrepreneurship and to the Movement
  • Be informed of and provide feedback on policies and programs that affect entrepreneurs
  • Connect with other entrepreneurs and hear their stories
Results of Entrepreneur Survey

Kauffman Foundation studies have shown that entrepreneurs historically have been key drivers of economic recovery in past recessionary periods. Since 1980, companies less than five years old have accounted for virtually all net new job creation in the United States.

"Pessimism and revenue loss among entrepreneurs on the front lines of the economy indicate that the fruits of economic recovery have yet to hit Main Street," said Carl Schramm, president and CEO of the Kauffman Foundation.

Other key findings from the poll include:
  • 69 percent of entrepreneurs believe the recession will last one to two years longer
  • 75 percent think the United States cannot have a sustained economic recovery without another burst of entrepreneurial activity

Huffington Post Op-Ed

Kauffman Foundation President Carl Schramm has an op-ed in today's Huffington Post, Join the Entrepreneurs' Movement That Launches Today: A "Cause" for our Economy that explains how entrepreneurs are key to our economic recovery. Entrepreneurs nationwide know firsthand about the transformative effect that starting a business can have on individuals and their communities. While Americans understand that entrepreneurs are critical to economic growth, our national dialogue doesn't include comprehensive discussion of policies that promote private sector, job-creating reform.

This disconnect exists because there currently is no organized community advocating for policies favorable to entrepreneurship - and the Entrepreneurs' Movement is intended to fill that void by giving entrepreneurs the voice they need. Read more>>
