Eighty years after Dorothy ran away from her aunt and uncle's Kansas farm in the Wizard of Oz, people are leaving the state in droves.

For the fifth straight year, more people have left the state than moved in, according to the 2018 National Movers Study from Untied Van Lines.

Kansas ranked #5 out of the top 10 states that have seen the most outbound migration in the past year. The biggest reason people cited for their move from Kansas was for a job (63.82%).

The Bicycle Architecture Biennale, opening in Amsterdam on Monday, highlights 15 of the most interesting projects. “By showcasing the most dynamic, visual solutions, the BAB inspires a new way of thinking about what cities of the future should look like,” says Adam Stones, strategy director of Bycs, an organization aiming to move 50% of urban trips to bikes by 2030. “And by showing what is possible, it will lead to many more creative solutions being implemented.”

California almond farmers who depend on commercial bee hives to pollinate their lucrative crops would benefit from increased efforts to protect essential bee foraging territory in northern prairie states, according a University of California, Berkeley, researcher.

A new paper, published this week in the journal Land Use Policy, shows that a government program that pays farmers to let marginal farmland go fallow has protected a critical bee refuge that supports 40 percent of the country’s commercially managed honeybees.
