The National Council of Entrepreneurial Tech Transfer (NCET2) has just launched into beta a revolutionary research crowdfunding platform at http://uStartups.com. This new research funding platform aims to continue university science and engineering projects to the point where they have real world impacts once government support for the project ends.

For our beta, we are looking for an initial 10 high-impact university research projects whose government funding has ended, but where the faculty and students are highly motivated to receive additional funding from public donors to continue to move their research forward.

If you are interested to be part of our beta, please register and submit your research project for consideration at http://uStartups.com. We expect to make our decisions about the first 10 projects in the next 2-4 weeks and then open those projects up for public donations immediately after. All submitted projects will be automatically re-considered for acceptance and publication once the beta period is over, so that all appropriately submitted and accepted projects will be open for donations within 8-12 weeks. Registration is free.

Please note that in beta some of the functionality is still under development and may have some minor bugs that require patience on the part of the user as our IT department continues to refine the platform during the beta. If you see any bugs or errors, please report them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for correction. Your help is greatly appreciated as we strive to make uStartups the world's greatest research crowdfunding donation site.

ABOUT USTARUPS

Although great researchers continually make groundbreaking discoveries at universities based on the 35 billion dollars of federal research funding each year, these inventions too often remain on the lab shelf because neither the federal government, the states nor the universities provide additional funding to take the discoveries to the larger world. While the expectation is that venture capitalists and angel investors will come in at that stage to help move the research off the shelf, the reality is that these financial investors are not interested in post-research funding either because of the lack of immediate revenues and profits. As a result, the research and development of these university inventions abruptly stops once the initial federal funding ends, often times waiting years and even decades for further progress to occur. There is literally billions and billions of dollars of potentially life-changing discoveries sitting on lab shelves waiting to move forward. This is despite the fact that even modest amounts of "maturation" funding has the promise to save lives, create innovative startups and provide jobs for university graduates.

uStartups is a crowdfunding platform so that donors can provide this crucial research “maturation” funding to faculty and student researchers so that they can continue their science and technology-based university inventions once the federal funding dries up. The funding provided by uStartups donors is essential to help university researchers move their discoveries into concrete, real life products and services for patients and users around the world. Providing scientists and students with research maturation funding will go a long way towards making the world a better place. Imagine the deadly diseases waiting to be cured, the new high-tech industries waiting to be created, the next generation of innovative leaders waiting to get going.

University project teams are working on breakthrough products with high social impacts in specific research areas, including the following:

(1) Life sciences and medicine

(2) Computer sciences, communications, and technology

(3) Physical sciences and engineering

(4) Other research areas important for human health and development

Many of these projects have hundreds of thousands, and even millions, of dollars of prior research money invested in them when the funding abruptly stops.

If you are a university faculty or student researcher looking for funding to continue your research, please list your project at http://uStartups.com.

If you are interested in funding a university research team through a donation, please search the projects listed on http://uStartups.com and donate as much or as little as you like in the areas where you would like to see accelerated development.

Please follow and fund university research. You'll feel good as you help to make the world a better place. Please pay it forward and fund the future!
