I've [Ted Strickland] just finished delivering my third State of the State speech, and I wanted to share it with you.
Across the country, Americans are grappling with the worst economic climate in 80 years. In Ohio, too, we've seen the devastating effects of a crisis caused by failed Washington policies and Wall Street greed.
But while the Wall Street recession has knocked Ohio down, we're not staying down. The state of our state is unyielding. With a long-term approach that focuses on creating jobs from the bottom up, Ohio can emerge from this global recession stronger than ever.

In today's address, I outlined real solutions to address Ohio's immediate economic challenges and to put Ohioans back to work without breaking the bank. More importantly, I talked about how we are building the foundation for steady economic progress and a thriving middle class.
And everything I talked about today builds on what we've already done together to lay the groundwork for long-term economic growth.
Together, we've invested in high-growth industries like advanced energy. And our investment is starting to pay off: last year, Ohio created more green jobs than any other state.
Together, we've given Ohioans the largest tax cut in modern Ohio history.
And together, we've invested in education because we know jobs will go where the workforce is best educated. We've kept college tuition costs down, created the University System of Ohio and modernized our K-12 system of education.

Together, we can continue laying the foundation for economic growth and come out of this global economic crisis stronger than we've ever been. There's nothing wrong with Ohio that can't be fixed by what is right with Ohio.
