The term “Confederation” has entered into Canadian vernacular both as a metaphor for the coutry and for the historical events that created it. This is similar to the American or British practices of naming things "Union" and as the Australians with “Federation.” Confederation represents the joining of different groups of people and their territories, and the birth of a sovereign entity. For almost 150 years, Canadians have been a rough and tumble bunch, whose values include freedom, respect for cultural differences and a commitment to social justice. The “True North strong & free.”
