The entrance hall of the Coutts & Co headquarters at the Strand in London is a far cry from how many would imagine a 327-year-old private bank, one whose most famous client is the Queen, to look.
The multistorey atrium, light wooden fittings and pale floor, dotted with ornamental trees, evoke a modern art gallery. I watch those who cross its floor with a keen eye, hoping to catch a peek of one of the bank’s famous customers such as former England footballer David Beckham.
