Revealed in its April product update blog post on April 19th, the new feature now brings support for Windows and Mac Zoom users to do the ‘raised hand’ and ‘thumbs up’ gestures in real life, and have the same translated to a corresponding in-app reaction.

But revenue was up 41% to $335.6 million against $238.6 million last year, while subscription sales shot up 50% to $280.8 million. Other stats of note from the quarter included:

US drone company Zipline starts delivering medicine in JapanTOKYO (AP) — Zipline, an American company that specializes in using autonomously flying drones to deliver medical supplies, has taken off in Japan.

They’re flying, starting Thursday, across the tiny Goto Islands, off the western coast of Kyushu, in southwestern Japan, delivering to pharmacies and hospitals.

Other parts of Japan may follow, including urban areas, although the biggest needs tend to be in isolated rural areas.

Amazon’s Alexa virtual assistant can become more “proactive” and expand to be useful in “more places in your life” in years to come, the tech giant’s devices boss says.

Dave Limp, the senior vice president of devices and services at Amazon and therefore the man in charge of Alexa, said a key target for Amazon is to free up people’s time by having the smart assistant take on more “mundane tasks”.

BlockApps, an enterprise blockchain provider, has raised $41 million in funding in a round led by Liberty City Ventures. BlockApps has its own blockchain platform – STRATO, which is in use as some large firms like Bayer, as well as the US government.

Other new investors in the round include Morgan Creek Digital, Eidetic Ventures, and Givic. Existing investors ConsenSys, Bloccelerate, Fitz Gate Ventures, Arab Angels, Kenetic Capital, and PropelX also participated. BlockApps noted that both Liberty City Ventures and Morgan Creek Digital gain a seat on BlockApps’ Board of Directors.

Kansas lands 650M facility in Manhattan to study global biological threats

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Scorpion Biological Services, a subsidiary of Heat Biologies Inc., broke ground on a new 500,000 square foot facility in Manhattan Monday, Gov. Laura Kelly's Office announced.

The facility will work to support development of vaccines that "enable a response to global biological threats," and other health care related products.

"The combination of a world-class public research university, innovative private sector partners and critical national security led Scorpion to choose Manhattan for its new facility," the release said.

Scorpion will join a soon-coming national bio-defense laboratory that is also being constructed in Manhattan and Kansas State University.
