In my role as business advisor, I’m hearing more and more about workers who seem to be doing less and demanding more. The current pandemic, which has driven more dependence on remote employees, makes it even harder for business owners, as well as aspiring new business leaders, to recognize and demonstrate exemplary performance in the workplace.

Cursor and The Billionaire Chairman Of Vaccine Maker Moderna Wants To Reinvent Scientific Entrepreneurship

constantly say things that are unreasonable and seemingly crazy,” says Noubar Afeyan, founder of venture firm Flagship Pioneering and chairman of Moderna. What if, he asked his researchers, microorganisms living in our guts–the “microbiome”–could help cure cancer? What if red blood cells could transport drugs along with oxygen? What if not all viruses were bad? And what if, he asked a decade ago, messenger RNA (mRNA) could be the basis of therapeutics?

Accenture Interactive’s Pat Connolly notes that privately, many leaders concede that innovation is simply one of those disciplines that can’t be held to the same standards as the rest of the business. But that’s simply the wrong way to approach it.

Bitcoin mining farm cryptocurrency business devic 2021 08 26 22 41 07 utc

If cities followed Vitalik Buterin’s model, revenue generated from cryptocurrency projects could be recycled into exponential technologies such as solar energy projects, vertical farming, and 3D printing.

Since their earliest manifestations, cities have been vital to our collective future. Cities are engines of commerce, thought, culture, and innovation. Even during the downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, cities have demonstrated their persistence and pushed humanity forward with critical leadership on the pressing issues facing the world. We need cities more than ever, to solve the challenges of climate change, globalized trade, and political stagnation. The best way to ensure that cities are up to the task is to bolster self-governance efforts. Blockchain technology is an ideal and underutilised tool to accomplish this task.

Several months in, the Great Resignation continues to upend workforces across the country. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a record 4.4 million employees quit their jobs in September. That bested the previous record freshly set in August, when another 4.3 million people dropped their two-week notices.

The trend has become impossible to ignore, and reckoning industries are now asking the big question: Why? While there isn’t a neat answer to that, some labor analysts speculate it could be a confluence of factors.

It’s no secret that today’s workplaces are changing. Open floor plans, remote work, and virtual meetings are all part of the modern office experience. Whether people are working from coffee shops, in a cubicle, or from a posh office lounge, comfortable seating options are paramount. And to illustrate just how important healthy workstations are, British office equipment company Fellowes has commissioned a lifelike, full-size model named “Emma,” whose myriad ailments show the dark side of where we’re headed if work comforts continue to go unchecked.

Stones on the sand with patterns zen concept 2021 09 02 21 35 16 utc

One of the most important books I’ve read is called Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind by Shunryu Suzuki. I’ll give you a short summary of the book, from the book: “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s there are few”. The entire goal of Zen according to Suzuki is to remain a perpetual beginner. Zen is all about living (actions) and less about life (ideas/interpretations about living). So, why should someone strive for the perspective of the beginner? Beginners are eager, inexperienced, patient, curious, creative, and open-minded. They aren’t yet stuck in habitual patterns; they are free in ways that the experienced person is not. When you started your business, you were a beginner too.

4 Planes - Courtesy Embraer

Embraer took another step toward a greener future by introducing four small, prop-driven, low-to-zero emissions concept designs this week.

“We will see a big transformation in our industry towards a more sustainable aviation,” said Arjan Meijer, president and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation. “Embraer is in a unique position to make viable the introduction of new disruptive green technologies.”

While that sounds good, but no one actually knows how viable or disruptive any one approach will be, which explains why the new Energia line includes four options with varying approaches.

The MBA has been the quintessential managerial education program and has supplied more ready and trained managers to U.S. corporations than any other graduate program. While MBA curricula are evolving to meet the changing needs of corporations, the authors assert that the pace of change must accelerate to keep the MBA degree future-proof. Otherwise, the danger is what Scott Cook, founder of Intuit, described: “When MBAs come to us, we have to fundamentally retrain them — nothing they learned will help them succeed at innovation.” This article provides a look at the main departments in a typical MBA program and what changes to the way business is done they need to keep up with.

Cursor and The Makings of Sitka s Landslide Warning System

Sitka Sound Science Center’s Lisa Busch: When four inches of rain fell on Sitka before 9:00 a.m., we knew it was not going to be a typical rainy day. The town has a well-functioning tsunami warning system, but had previously experienced few landslides, even though we get about 100 inches of rain a year. So when mud began to move down the hillsides around the town, there were no warnings. Three people died, a house was destroyed, and a lot of city infrastructure was damaged. Volunteers and city workers immediately went to work with shovels.

One way street signs 2021 08 30 02 12 26 utc

As a serial entrepreneur behind nine startups, I’m here to tell you: Don’t quit your day job. Yet.

While most advice for potential entrepreneurs starts with the idea that you should just quit your job and dive in, this is rarely the best course of action. Starting your career pragmatically and building toward entrepreneurship, instead of diving into the deep end, can help you get more comfortable in the corporate waters and refine your idea.
