Unemployment during the coronavirus pandemic is affecting women so disproportionately that many analysts are referring to the economic crisis as a “she-cession.”

Since the pandemic began in February, women have been leaving the labor force in significantly greater numbers than men, according to several recent studies based on U.S. Census data. Working mothers are especially vulnerable; they’re nearly three times more likely than men not to be working because of child care demands.

New program wants to be the Y Combinator for emerging fund managers TechCrunch

Rolling funds, the rise of solo capitalists, crowd syndicates and team-based seed funds all scream one thing in unison: venture capital is growing and getting unbundled at the same time.

While the asset class remains largely exclusive and skewed white and male, innovation does have the potential to usher in a new, far more inclusive generation of investors. The question is how to ensure that these newer investors survive and thrive and are able to scale their operations in much the way that their predecessors in the industry have.

Six innovative small businesses in Wisconsin will receive $100,000 each through a partnership of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. and the University of Wisconsin System's Center for Technology Commercialization.

The SBIR Advance grants are awarded to businesses that have received federal funding from the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs to develop high-tech innovations.

Johns Hopkins has consolidated the university's job and internship postings onto a single website, SMILE, a new platform for finding remote and in-person experiential learning opportunities across all JHU divisions.

All positions posted on SMILE are non-credit bearing, compensated via JHU payroll, and part time. Students will continue to use the existing Handshake platform for off-campus internships and full-time positions.

The summer break is over. Most of us remained at home on “staycations.” More daring people jumped into their cars for road trips or even took “masked” airplane flights. What do we find after our vacations? The coronavirus is still around. In many places, new COVID-19 infections are rising faster than they were before the summer break. Many people have been hit directly by this pandemic; some have lost friends or relatives, and many have had their livelihoods undermined.
