It might take only five minutes to fill up gas tanks. In contrast, electric vehicles connected to an EV charger might take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes to charge. It’s a problem many scientists and automotive experts have been trying to fix.

CalWave has been working on its xWave clean power technology for many years now, and has announced the successful conclusion of an extended open-ocean test off the coast of San Diego, in which the device demonstrated over 99% system uptime.

Wave energy is one of the less common renewable energy sources, and while there are many wave energy projects under development, the industry itself can be considered more or less embryonic at this stage. There's some promise in it; as CalWave points out, "ocean waves are 20-60 times more energy-dense, predictable and consistent compared to other forms of renewable energy."

A Texas company is set to launch a satellite on a SpaceX Falcon 9 this month that will unfold a huge array in low-Earth orbit designed to provide a cellular broadband signal that mobile phones will connect to directly.

AST SpaceMobile will send its BlueWalker 3 test satellite to space on a mission from Cape Canaveral that will also launch another batch of Elon Musk's Starlink broadband satellites to orbit.

There’s a ubiquitous crop that slurps up unsustainable quantities of water, gets doused in chemicals and fertilizers to maintain its growth—and yet doesn’t provide us with any food. This crop is cotton, and it covers 34.5 million hectares of arable farmland around the world.

Now, a team of Swedish researchers propose that if we replace a share of this crop with fibers made from the wood of fast-growing poplar trees, we could free up millions of hectares of cotton land for growing food instead.

The devastating toll of the pandemic is all too clear on our families, our cities, our nation. But we are now beginning to see an underappreciated side of the pandemic: a coast-to-coast surge in American ingenuity, drive and determination.

Even as the pandemic damaged or even destroyed many businesses, it also provided new opportunities and fostered creativity in unexpected ways. For some, it meant a recalibration of life priorities. For others, it provided the gift of time and attention to start something new or follow through on long-deferred dreams. More new businesses were created in 2020 than any other year on record, and 2021 wasn’t far behind. The one-year survival rate of those new companies topped 80% in 2021 for the first time since 1999, according to the Kauffman Indicators of Entrepreneurship.

Starting a business on your own can be incredibly exciting but scary. If you are off to the wild west of entrepreneurship, it can be a good idea to be armed with a big dream, a solid plan and a partner you can count on.

However, in my experience, finding the right co-founder was even more complicated than modern-day dating. Thus, I decided to stop waiting for Mr. or Ms. Right and do it myself.

There’s a lot I’ve learned along the way to finding business and financial success before the age of 30. Below is the advice I would offer to today’s entrepreneurs.

Be brave.

Innovation always involves a leap into the unknown. Courage is a fundamental prerequisite for entrepreneurial success. This includes a willingness to swim against the tide, communicate clearly at all levels, and to discuss, criticize and inform. However, it’s precisely the unwillingness to leave your comfort zone that causes many young entrepreneurs to fail.

It aims at increasing the contribution of total factor productivity (TFP) to economic growth from the current 0.3 percent to 4.5 percent in 2041. Any improvement in TFP contribution essentially requires technological innovation, leading to the commercialisation of research results and ideas in the form of products, processes, services, etc. Indeed, as Robert Solow – the 1987 Nobel Prize winner in economics – states, "Technological innovation is the ultimate source of productivity and economic growth."
