Entrepreneurs, business leaders, and sales professionals often ask me the same question. How long — exactly — should I practice for a presentation? I've heard the question so often over the past 15 years of coaching, I have a ready answer. And it works.

First, I tell them that Dr. Jill Bolte-Taylor, a scientist who gave one of the top TED talks of all time, practiced her entire talk 200 times. Once their jaws drop, I give them the good news — you don't have to commit nearly that much time to stand out.

Acquiring digital competence has been a key objective for most of the world’s largest companies for some years. And a key way to go about doing so has been to appoint a chief digital officer (CDO) to lead the digital agenda.

Abby Tang: It's a prank, right? Hoverboards are pranks?

Jason Sanchez: It's a lie. It's not, like, it's not a hoverboard.

Jacqui Frank: They're just ugly skateboards. Like, just call a spade a spade. It doesn't make any sense to me.

Jade Tungul: Hoverboards. Jesus Christ.

Sanchez: "Back to the Future II" introduced this concept of the hoverboard. I've been dreaming of a hoverboard since I watched that movie, and that was 1989. Kind of flash forward to a couple years ago, and it's not a hoverboard. It's, like, a thing with a wheel. One thing has, like, a single wheel I see people on, they're like, "Oh, a hoverboard." I'm like, "You're not hovering." It's a wheel; it touches the ground. There's no hover.

The Age of Moonshots Barron s

Eric Schmidt was CEO of Google in 2009 when he joined the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology under Barack Obama, and began working closely with Tom Kalil, who was then a deputy in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Kalil remembers that Schmidt “was able to not only discuss the big picture—for example, ‘What is the potential of this technology?’—but what, concretely, could the government do to foster innovation.”
