We’re all getting older. It’s the one thing that every single person alive right now has in common. But we’re also getting older as a population, with Americans both living longer and having fewer children. Census projections show a major demographic shift already underway and accelerating in the years to come.

Immigration in the United States is a controversial issue just as it is in most other countries of the world. Many other of not just first-world countries, like Japan, Australia, Western Europe are wrestling with immigration, but many developing countries. When I was last in Indonesia, Malaysia, Indonesia's neighbor, is having a problem with Indonesians migrating into Malaysia because the standard of living in Malaysia is higher than in Indonesia. And South Africa, an African country, is having issues with immigration with neighboring poorer African countries such as Zimbabwe sending immigrants into South Africa.

garlic

Ordering a dish loaded with garlic or onions can be a commitment. The flavors can linger on the tongue long after a meal is over, no matter how many breath mints you pop.

But what actually causes a bad aftertaste — and is there any way to get rid of it?

Cordelia Running, director of the Saliva, Perception, Ingestion and Tongues (SPIT) lab at Purdue University, says that aftertastes are generally caused by “little bits of the actual flavor stimuli that might hang around”: physical remnants of food that get caught in the mouth, for example, or molecules that remain in the saliva or mucus.

Happy Mother’s Day 2019 | Mother’s Day is being celebrated on May 12 in India and several other countries this year. Mother’s Day entails people doing different things to make mums feel special on Mother’s Day. But did you know that the woman whose efforts at the start of the 20th century led the United States Congress to declare the second Sunday of May as an official holiday to mark Mother’s Day became so disgruntled with its commercialization that she ended up in a sanitarium?

Oklahoma is a great place to live. Oklahoma is a great place to work.

We are a state that seems ready to seize the moment and leverage the quality of life and business-friendly advantages here to add innovation and technology-based economic development to Oklahoma’s list of “greats.”

Unemployment is down; the economy is moving along. As legislators and business leaders, we should be asking ourselves every day — how do we build a sustainable model that creates more and better-paying jobs in Oklahoma, even when the economy stalls at some point in the future?

Each time I go to the Global Entrepreneurship Congress, I come back wishing that I could share the experience with everyone who is working to improve ecosystems for entrepreneurs in the U.S. Eleven years ago, the conference was started by Kauffman in its hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. Now, GEC is held in a different international location each year, and involves about 2,000 attendees – including entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, policymakers, and entrepreneurship champions – representing more than 170 countries and running programs that reach millions.

Long-distance photography on Earth is a tricky challenge. Capturing enough light from a subject at great distances is not easy. And even then, the atmosphere introduces distortions that can ruin the image; so does pollution, which is a particular problem in cities. That makes it hard to get any kind of image beyond a distance of a few kilometers or so (assuming the camera is mounted high enough off the ground to cope with Earth’s curvature).

Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg became famous this spring for launching a student movement to compel adults to take action on climate change. Instead of going to school, Greta has been spending her Fridays in front of the Swedish parliament with a sign reading: “School Strike for Climate.” Students in more than 70 countries have since followed her lead. But before she started trying to convince the world to take action, Thunberg worked on her parents. She showered them with facts and showed them documentaries. “After a while, they started listening to what I actually said,” Thunberg told the Guardian newspaper. “That’s when I realized I could make a difference.”

The Future of Entrepreneurship Is Female Thrive Global

Traditionally, entrepreneurship has been a male-dominated industry. When most people are asked to list famous entrepreneurs, most of the names given are male. In a recent list of the top 25 entrepreneurs, only two women are included. Historically, women have been underrepresented when it comes to entrepreneurship. They also still face many roadblocks to securing funding and launching a successful company today. Before 2014, only 15 percent of those pursuing angel investment were female.

McDonald’s entered a partnership Wednesday with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) to fill its need for morning workers and expand diversity.

The fast-food chain aims to attract older Americans who can fill employment gaps at the company. AARP is “the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering Americans 50 and older to choose how they live as they age,” according to its website. The move is also an effort to increase diversity among workers employed at the fast-food giant.

According to Visit Finland, there are 21 reasons to love Finland. To name a few:

  • Kilpisjärvi in Lapland has the cleanest air in Europe
  • The Aurora Borealis can appear more than 200 nights a year
  • There are 3.3 million saunas for their 5.3 million population
  • When Reader’s Digest did a global test on honesty, 11 out of 12 wallets deliberately left abandoned around Helsinki were returned, ranking it the safest city in the world

It’s not surprising then, that The World Happiness Report named Finland the happiest place to live, but it’s also a hotbed for entrepreneurs, particularly in the healthtech space, for a few key reasons:

Over the years, Israel has accumulated a lot of experience with corporate open innovation. Over 350 global corporations selected Israel as their source for innovation, understanding that the rapid rate that technology changes and the fierce competition that exists, does not allow these companies to rely just on their R&D departments.

Many entrepreneurs I know are confused by definition and need for an Advisory Board versus a Board of Directors. Some view both of these as a waste of time and burden on the CEO, while other founders surround themselves with insiders and cronies in an attempt to expedite and add credibility to their own interests. I suggest a few simple considerations will clarify the alternatives.

Establishing a new habit is hard, but it can be done, and at the same time, lead to more happiness. I'm proof of that.

I just completed Yale's online 10-week course "Science of Well Being" — aka the "happiness" class. I already wrote about it halfway through because it was having such an immediate impact on my daily life.

Now that it's over, did it stick? Am I, in fact, happier?

graduates

The latest crop of college graduates is entering the labor force. And, as always, the graduates will do relatively well. The unemployment rate is persistently lower and earnings are persistently higher for those with a college degree than for those without one.

For new graduates, the state of the labor market has notable career implications beyond getting a first job. People who graduate into a strong labor market will earn more throughout their careers than those who graduate during a recession. And when recession eventually does hit, people with college degrees are more protected; during economic downturns, people without a college degree are at greater risk of unemployment.

The more things stay the same, the more they stay the same – at least if you’re the best and worst states in America for doing business. But if you’re somewhere in the middle of the rankings, there are real prospects for changing CEO perceptions, just not always for the better.

According to the CEOs who were surveyed for the 2019 Best States & Worst States for business ranking by Chief Executive, Texas remained No. 1 this year, solidifying its long hold on the top spot. Florida once again was No. 2. Indiana remained No. 5. At least Tennessee leapt up to No. 3 while North Carolina dipped one spot, to No. 4.

questions

I engaged this weekend and walked away considering every entrepreneur I know is a pioneer, and I discover their success and a correlation between every entrepreneur’s leadership skills. So, which comes first?

Do you have to be a pioneer before you can be an entrepreneur? Or will you become an entrepreneur and also learn?

I am not the jurisdiction on each subject, but I have swallowed a lot and even created a content on the two. I can’t remember speaker or any author. So, I’m just going to jump in with my thoughts, and I’d welcome others to do the same.
