Billionaire fortunes increased by 12% a day in 2018, while the 3.8 billion poorest people saw their wealth decline by 11% a day, according to a report released by charity Oxfam to mark the opening of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. 

The world’s richest 1% bagged 45.6% of all wealth created in 2018, which is an increase from 42.3% the previous year, according to the report ‘Public Good or Private Wealth?’ published on Monday (21 January).

In 2018, 26 people owned the same as the 3.8 billion people who make up the poorest half of the world, down from 43 people the year before.

Surveillance drone designer AS Works is doubling its small workforce in St. John's this month after inking a research and development deal with an undisclosed client.

Dr. Armin Strobel, the company's founder and chief executive officer, says AS Works will be hiring another two engineers as it works to extend the range of its prototype surveillance drone to more than twice what other drones are currently able to achieve.

Like salt, black pepper sits on almost every kitchen table or countertop in America. But while whole books have been written about sodium consumption and human health, black pepper and its compounds have garnered little attention from experts.
