According to the Global Innovation Index 2022, Switzerland remains the world leader in innovation for the twelfth consecutive year, followed by the United States, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. The only barrier so far has been the fact that setting up your own wind farm is ridiculously expensive and space-intensive. New Zealand will phase in a near-total tobacco ban from next year.
Legislation passed by parliament on Tuesday means that anyone born after 2008 will never be able to buy cigarettes or tobacco products.
It will mean the number of people able to buy tobacco will shrink each year. By 2050, for example, 40-year-olds will be too young to buy cigarettes.
Health Minister Ayesha Verrall, who introduced the bill, said it was a step "towards a smoke-free future".
As the COVID-19 pandemic wears on, newer variants of SARS-CoV-2 have been evolving ways to evade the antibodies our bodies make in response to vaccination or prior infections. Breakthrough cases have resulted, and antibody treatments that once worked also have become less effective over time.

Researchers have built a new cheap battery with four times the energy storage capacity of lithium.
Constructed from sodium-sulphur - a type of molten salt that can be processed from sea water - the battery is low-cost and more environmentally friendly than existing options.
It could be a ‘breakthrough’ for renewable energy, according to lead researcher Dr Shenlong Zhao, from the University of Sydney.

Amazon just announced a trio of new features for Echo Show users, with gesture controls topping the list.
In other words, you can now perform physical gestures in front of the screen, and the integrated camera translates these gestures into in-device adjustments. Just raise your hand to activate or dismiss a timer, so you won’t have to physically tap the device or yell “stop” at poor, misunderstood Alexa.

It's hard enough to get up the courage to start a business, but that's only the beginning. Now you need to decide what business to start, and it's not as simple as doing what seems obvious. For example, a friend of mine learned how to design websites while he was in college. When he decided to start a business, he figured, "I know how to design websites, I guess I'll start a website design business." Others have started certain types of businesses because of a hobby, because they heard it was a good way to make money or because someone else dragged them into it.
Passwords. We use them every day. We love them and we hate them. We are constantly frustrated by them — coming up with, and remembering, the required string of upper and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters.

A 70-year-long effort to harness nuclear fusion reactions to generate unlimited clean energy is finally taking shape. For the first time in history, U.S. government scientists have generated more energy from a controlled reaction than it consumed. While the nuclear fusion industry is still private, there still is a great chance for retail investors looking to cash in on the breakthrough via Chevron (NYSE:CVX) and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN).
US government scientists have made a breakthrough in the pursuit of limitless, zero-carbon power by achieving a net energy gain in a fusion reaction for the first time, according to three people with knowledge of preliminary results from a recent experiment.
