A popular myth that most of you probably believe is that startups are only for the younger generations. Tiny homes are defined as abodes that are under 400 square feet. The movement has picked up steam, with many opting for the tiny lifestyle to save money or to be able to travel freely. Thanks to Covid-19, all-remote companies – that select group of (mainly tech) firms that function without a physical location of any kind – have gone from eccentrics to exemplars in the eyes of the larger business community. Companies contemplating a possible open-ended future of obligatory remote working for much of their staff would do well to learn from these elite early adopters.

visa

Major tech companies including Amazon, Apple, the Google parent Alphabet, Uber, and Twitter decried President Donald Trump's freeze on a range of immigration work visas Monday, calling it "unbelievably bad policy" that would undermine America's economic recovery and its competitiveness.

Trump issued a proclamation Monday suspending the issuance of a variety of visas that allow foreigners to work in the US for a limited amount of time. The administration said the suspension, which affects H-1B, H-2B, H-4, J-1, and L-1 visas, was necessary to protect American workers at a time when the coronavirus pandemic has pushed unemployment to its highest level in decades.

See what s really driving fund returns with PitchBook s Custom Benchmarks PitchBook

The consequences of misjudging the performance of private market funds are high. Inaccurate fund benchmarks can lead limited partners to miss investment opportunities or make poor allocation decisions—and they can make fundraising significantly more difficult for general partners.

However, most third-party venture capital benchmarks and private equity benchmarks lack the transparency needed to accurately decipher how well individual funds and investment strategies have performed. They don’t expose the underlying fund data they consist of, the investments those funds have made or even the performance of the component funds—meaning critical details that can be used to better evaluate performance are lost.

Entrepreneurs need to be effective team leaders, since no one can transform an idea into a product and a business without some help. Unfortunately many founders I work with as a mentor are experts on the technical side, but have no insight into leading a team. But fortunately, team building is a skill that can be learned and practiced, for those willing to put in some effort.

Johns Hopkins CEO 30 of doctor visits will shift to telehealth The Jerusalem Post

Some 30% of in-person patient-doctor visits will shift to the digital world of medicine following the coronavirus pandemic, according to Paul Rothman, Dean of the Medical Faculty at Johns Hopkins University and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine.

The shift to telehealth in recent months has been both vital and rapid as person-to-person contact has been reduced to a minimum.

At Maryland-based Johns Hopkins, one of the United States’ most prominent hospitals, the number of telehealth “visits” increased from a couple of dozen before the pandemic to approximately 5,500 every day.

In the midst of a pandemic, I don’t think we ever expected to see one of the most energized social justice movements in the past few decades. Emboldened by the movement, many are engaging in more frank discussions about the role race plays when it comes to funding opportunities for early-stage tech companies. As a result, venture capitalists, a group historically dominated by white men, has shown increased interest in finding and funding Black founders.

telehealth

Over the past several months, providers and their patients have had to ramp up telehealth in a hurry. Although reviews are early, usage is on the rise and both clearly acknowledge the potential for telehealth in everyday practice. But providers also say they struggle to “see” as many patients a day through telehealth as they do in-person. And patients, well…they’re still not clear on how the whole thing works. Do they download an app somewhere? Is the tele-visit covered by insurance? (And here’s something both doctors and patients should be asking: What if the Internet connection drops during the visit?)
