Scientists at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in Western Australia tested venom from more than 300 honeybees and bumblebees against two types of aggressive, hard to treat breast cancer: triple negative and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) enriched. They found that a compound in the venom called melittin could destroy breast cancer cells within an hour, without causing harm to other cells.

The UniWave 200 has been making reliable, clean energy for Australia's King Island for a year now, delivering better performance than expectedWave Swell EnergyWave Swell Energy's remarkable UniWave 200 is a sea platform that uses an artificial blowhole formation to create air pressure changes that drive a turbine and feed energy back to shore. After a year of testing, the company reports excellent results.

As we've discussed before, the UniWave system is a floatable device that can be towed to any coastal location and connected to the local energy grid. It's designed so that wave swells force water into a specially designed concrete chamber, pressurizing the air in the chamber and forcing it through an outlet valve. Then as the water recedes, it generates a powerful vacuum, which sucks air in through a turbine at the top and generates electricity that's fed into the grid via a cable.

95ac29 bf5cbb132aec46528a48f87f1f266876 mv2By harvesting water vapor from the air and condensing it into liquid, atmospheric water generators can essentially pull water from the air, and these devices hold a lot of promise for providing an independent source of drinking water.

And although drought-stricken regions and locations without safe or stable water sources are prime candidates for water production and purification devices such as those, residences and commercial buildings in the developed world could also benefit from their use, and they make a great fit for off-grid homes and emergency preparedness kits.

Assorted coffee cups on a light brown wooden board 2021 12 15 20 40 44 utcAfter a decade of easy money, start-ups are suddenly facing a strange new reality: funding is drying up. Global venture funding fell by 23 percent to US$108.5 billion in the second quarter of the year – the second-largest drop in a decade. Ai photo restoration 1If you’re anywhere around my age, I’m sure you have a bunch of photos of your parents and grandparents that have seen better days (the photos, not your ancestors). Anyhow, you can now take those old, scratched, crinkled, and torn prints and restore them without any prior Photoshop knowledge.

A neural network called GFP-GAN (Generative Facial Prior-Generative Adversarial Network) restores your old and damaged photos with impressive speed and accuracy. But just like all AI-based tools, this one has downsides as well. So, let’s check out the good and the bads and see what it has to offer.
