A team of researchers from the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, north western Romania has developed a recipe for artificial blood and say their initial tests look encouraging.
Lead by 39-year-old professor Radu Silaghi-Dumitrescu, the team’s discovery could pave the way to the crucial development of artificial blood, filling blood bank shortages and providing a reliable option for transfusions following accidents and major surgeries.
