Indian companies in the recent past have been big importers of management wisdom from the West. Sadly this perception has been accepted to the point of universal truth.
We don’t see many manufacturing companies that boast of “Indian
practices and standards” (unless ISO is “Indian Standards
Organization”). It’s easy to see how this started. As a late adopter
of industrialization, all new businesses in India naturally looked to
their more established counterparts in the West. Later, when Indians
were allowed to conduct businesses that were earlier reserved only for
the British, the flow of learning was clearly one way.
