Helping the U.S. to maintain world leadership in energy technology, the Deputy Director will serve as the senior career leader of a select, highly skilled team of professionals focused on identifying and moving new discoveries and innovations from the renowned Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories, plants, and facilities into the market, enhancing U.S. competitiveness and technological leadership.

DOE is the government's largest funder of physical scientific research and development and a world leader in developing and commercializing new technologies thanks to its world-renowned scientists, engineers and technical specialists. The mission of the Office of Technology Transitions (OTT) is to expand the commercial impact of DOE's portfolio of research, development, demonstration and deployment activities over the short, medium and long term, and speed technological discoveries into U.S. commercial energy markets.

As a member of the Senior Executive Service, the Deputy Director for OTT leads a team that oversees and coordinates technology transitions activities across DOE and develops and implements the strategic plan and vision to identify, develop and transition new technologies to the U.S. market. This includes coordinating early-stage technology transitions involving the Department's 17 world-renowned national laboratories to later stage applied technology research and development and eventual deployment and commercialization of energy technologies by the private sector. OTT accomplishes this mission through a select team of highly skilled professionals focused on collaborating with the national laboratories, DOE program offices, as well as public, private and philanthropic stakeholders, to develop strategies that identify high value technological innovations and discoveries, and injecting resources needed to rapidly move them to commercialization and into the marketplace. These activities enhance the nation's economic competitiveness and strengthen our nation's energy technology leadership.
