Japanese XR enthusiast known as Iwama has demonstrated a cool 3D-scanned model of a hotel room made using an iPhone's LiDAR scanner. For those unaware, the LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) scanner was first introduced with iPhone 12 Pro. The scanner is able to determine the distance between itself and an object by monitoring how long it takes a pulse of infrared light to bounce back. Sending hundreds of thousands of light pulses every second, LiDAR scanners can work out distances and object sizes with relative accuracy over small distances. It is then possible to use the data to construct 3D models.
