Meta open-sourced its AI-based translation tool – No Language Left Behind. This AI model can translate across 200 languages, many of which are not supported by current commercial tools. This announcement comes at the time when the company has been aggressively developing its ‘universal speech translator.’ Machine translation is one of the important areas for AI research; for Meta, progress in this field would help it better understand its users.
